On this page, you can find MRFRS’s annual shelter animal statistics and live release rate data. Please note that due to varied record-keeping systems, our intake and outcome numbers do not always match up. It is something we are working on! Please also note that while the data categories are based on the forms used at AsilomarAccords.org, we have modified the categories slightly to be more descriptive about the types of intakes and placements we do.
Please note that the Annual Live Release Rate is calculated by dividing total live outcomes (adoptions, outgoing transfers, and return to owner/guardian) by total outcomes (total live outcomes plus euthanasia not including owner/guardian requested euthanasia or died/lost in shelter/care). (from Asilomar Accords Statistics)
*Note that MRFRS will almost never have a Live Release Rate of 100% because we do euthanize cats who are dying or suffering without a likely cure for their ailments. Because we take in many senior and special needs cats with significant health issues, we will always be faced with end-of-life euthanasia as part of our statistics. All of our euthanasia decisions are made in consultation with a veterinarian (often multiple veterinarians) by the staff and caregivers who know the cat best. Our staff and board believe that a humane death in the face of untreatable conditions is the most compassionate care we can give a cat at the end of its life.
