Halloween is lots of fun but can be a dangerous time for cats! Here are a few ways to make Halloween more “treat” and less “trick” for your four-legged friend.

  • Keep your cat indoors. This is always our advice, but it really holds true on holidays like Halloween and the 4th of July. Loud noises and unfamiliar groups of people may frighten your cat. That said, be sure your cat is somewhere safe if you are giving out candy this year. You want to be sure he doesn’t slip out into the night.
  • Don’t dress your cat in a costume (unless he is one of the few that doesn’t mind). Many cats don’t like wearing costumes (even though it’s very cute). Read your cat’s body language and if he isn’t interested in dressing up, let him be a cat for Halloween.
  • Keep your own Halloween costume in a safe place. Some Halloween costumes include strings and cords which can be irresistible yet dangerous to cats. Make sure you and your family hang costumes with any hazards out of your kitty’s reach.
  • Steer your kitty clear of candy and candles. If you have small children in your house, make sure they don’t share any tasty treats with your cat as ingredients like chocolate, xylitol and raisins can be deadly to cats. Be sure to keep an eye on candles, too as cats can tip them over or harm themselves.

You can spoil your kitty on Halloween with his favorite cat treats and one of our catnip Halloween toys! Happy Meowloween to all!
