Part-Time Veterinarian (Mobile Feline Clinic)

The part-time Veterinarian operates under the direction of the MRFRS Veterinary Practice Manager and Medical Director. As part of our team, you help ensure high-quality veterinary care reaches cats in need through the surgical and medical services offered to the patients of the Catmobile service.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for veterinarians with a passion for helping all communities access veterinary care for their feline companions. As we are a mobile service, we are looking for veterinarians all across Massachusetts. Our team of experienced support staff will transport the clinic to its daily location. You will arrive at the scheduled location and administer your skills and knowledge to our scheduled patients.

We service the greater Merrimack Valley and beyond:, Methuen, Billerica, Fitchburg, Brockton, Haverhill, Woburn, Holbrook, Quincy, Lowell, Salisbury, Leominster, Framingham, Tyngsboro, Salem, Topsfield, Hopkinton.

Our Catmobile Veterinarians perform spay/neuter surgeries, wellness exams, vaccinations, microchipping, and other preventive care services in a mobile setting. Collaborating with a dedicated team of technicians and assistants to ensure high-quality patient care and client education.

What we offer:

Our clinics operate Monday through Friday, with no nights or weekends required (although special community events held on Saturdays and Sundays are occasionally an option). Competitive Compensation:

  • $75 - $87/hour

In this role, you have the ability to help ensure all cats and families have access to routine veterinary care through our services, and know you have helped the most vulnerable and in-need cats and caretakers in their communities.

Role and Responsibilities

Oversee and facilitate high-quality medical and surgical care of the day’s patients in care of the Catmobile. During their shift, the veterinarian is responsible for overseeing all aspects of veterinary care, including exams and surgeries, calculation and delivery of medications, verifying completion of medical records daily, and patient discharge information.

Medical and Surgical Care

  • Examine, medically treat, medicate, and perform surgical sterilization of patients (spay/neuter)
  • Review and confirm medication and anesthetic drug calculations.
  • Review all pre-op medical records, if applicable. Consulting with the patient's primary veterinarian, if applicable
  • Provide for an efficient flow of patients through their medical procedures.
  • Oversee documentation of all exam findings, treatments, vaccinations, and surgery in the medical record.
  • Assist with patient discharge on an as-needed basis to address specific patient concerns.

Administrative

  • Oversee the documentation of all findings, test results, and treatment recommendations in MRFRS’ medical record system.
  • Maintain strict control of and adhere to all regulations related to the handling of controlled substances and drug logs.
  • Provide direction to the Catmobile Medical Team during and in support of operations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with current license to practice in Massachusetts.
  • Current and active DEA license.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation
  • Animal handling skills and experience.
  • Maintain current MCSR
  • Maintaining PLIT Insurance is highly recommended.

Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator

Position Summary

Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) relies on our team of wonderful, committed volunteers to help both in the shelter and out in the community. The MRFRS Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the volunteer program at MRFRS, which includes recruiting, training, engaging, and celebrating our volunteer community. The V & CO Coordinator is also responsible for planning and implementing programs and events designed to build brand awareness, grow the impact of our mission, and engage a broad spectrum of donors and constituents for MRFRS.

Role and Responsibilities

Volunteer Program (approximately 45%)

  • Develop and research new opportunities and channels for recruitment.
  • Understand all aspects of the volunteer management software (Volgistics).
  • Oversee the volunteer onboarding process including vetting, interviewing, training, and entering profiles into Volgistics.
  • Ensure volunteers are trained as needed for shelter cat care, admin, and event support roles.
  • Build and maintain relationships with volunteers; organize recognition programs and events.
  • Solicit and respond to volunteer feedback.
  • Provide feedback and manage volunteer-related disciplinary issues.
  • Manage event volunteers for Strut for Strays, Fur Ball, etc.
  • Collaborate with the shelter team to ensure volunteer coverage and address gaps.

Community Outreach (approximately 45%)

  • Maintain relationships with schools, businesses, and community groups.
  • Manage a calendar of outreach activities and appearances.
  • Build and lead a team of outreach ambassadors.
  • Create and maintain outreach marketing materials.
  • Track and report on outreach ROI and effectiveness.

Administrative (approximately 10%)

  • Coordinate volunteer schedules with supervisors.
  • Maintain SOPs for volunteer and outreach programs.
  • Prepare and manage an annual budget for volunteer and outreach activities.
  • Help manage the MRFRS general information mailbox.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time (40 hours/week) hourly role with flexible scheduling required for some mornings, evenings, or weekends.

Driver/Veterinary Assistant - Spay/Neuter & Wellness

Position Summary / Objective

The MRFRS Driver / Veterinary Assistant operates under the direction of the MRFRS Veterinary Practice Manager. This role supports the veterinary operations team to ensure quality patient care and excellent client service.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Drive Catmobile to and from daily clinic locations.
  • Assist with the intake of cats from clients.
  • Verify client paperwork and online data during check‑in.
  • Support the veterinary team to maintain workflow and optimal care.
  • Help prepare equipment and materials for the day’s surgeries.
  • Communicate procedure details and patient status to clients.
  • Prepare paperwork for client pick‑up and assist with checkout.
  • Clean instruments, equipment, and clinic surfaces.
  • Enter visit information into ClinicHQ.
  • Assist with Catmobile communications, scheduling, and documentation.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

Full‑time and part‑time candidates considered. Schedule flexibility is required to ensure completion of patient care. Overtime must be pre‑approved by a supervisor.

Workplace Environment

Environmental Conditions: Duties performed inside and outside a mobile spay/neuter unit in tight quarters and all weather conditions; interaction with cats (including fractious animals) and the public; use of veterinary equipment and electronics.

Noise: The mobile unit can be loud during operations.

Working Conditions: Client interaction occurs outdoors. Workspace is tight; some days may be long; some clients may be challenging.
