The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society’s Catmobile Program is a mobile spay/neuter clinic designed specifically for cats. Our Catmobile is staffed by a veterinarian and technician and can assist up to 30 cats a day.

The Catmobile program covers the North Shore, Central MA, Metrowest and Merrimack River Valley areas. (Towns include: Billerica; Fitchburg; Framingham; Gardner; Leominster; Methuen; North Andover; Salisbury; Tyngsboro; Woburn)

Our package includes a brief exam, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination for cats over 12 weeks of age (weighing 1.8kg/4 lbs.), FVRCP vaccination, tattoo, nail trim and flea treatment. Thanks to Cummings Foundation, microchips are now included in our package, too!

Important Information

Your cat's age

All cats need to weigh at least 4 pounds. To receive a rabies vaccine, which we recommend, cats must be at least 12 weeks (3 months) of age. We do not spay/neuter cats over the age of three years but can provide you with a referral of a place who can assist you. For the safety of your cat, we strongly recommend pre-operative bloodwork ahead of time (at your own veterinarian) for any cats 2-3 years of age. This bloodwork cannot be done on the Catmobile.

Do you have a purebred cat?

We are unable to accommodate purebred breeds due to health concerns. Please note that our veterinarians reserve the right to turn away mixed-breeds of these cats as well. This is for the safety of your cat.

Before Your Appointment

If your cat is not already up to date on vaccinations, he’ll receive a one-year rabies vaccination and a FVRCP (“distemper”) vaccination during his appointment.

Even though he’ll get a distemper vaccination that day, we strongly recommend that your cat receive an FVRCP (“distemper”) vaccination at least 48 hours prior to their visit to the Catmobile (and ideally that they have a full FVRCP “series” on board first). You can get an initial distemper vaccine through a vet’s office or at a low-cost vaccine clinic like Vetco (located inside many Petco stores). The vaccination is a series of two or three shots, depending on your cat’s age, usually given 3 to 4 weeks apart.

If you get your initial vaccine prior to your appointment, you may be able to get your 1 year booster at your Catmobile appointment, depending on whether the vet determines your cat is eligible.

The distemper vaccine helps protect your cat against three diseases they could be exposed to when in close proximity to other cats, two of which can be deadly. All cats are kept separate from each other on the Catmobile, but we have no way of knowing whether another cat on the vehicle that day might be carrying distemper, so it is in your cat’s best interest to be vaccinated before being around other cats during a Catmobile appointment.
