MRFRS relies on our team of wonderful, committed volunteers to help both in the shelter and out in the community. Our volunteers help care for cats waiting to find their forever homes (both in Salisbury and at our Danvers PetSmart adoption
center), assist with special events, help with answering phone and administrative tasks, staff our Sunday feral spay/neuter clinics, feed feral cats at local feeding stations, as well as a variety of other responsibilities – they are there wherever extra help is needed!
We are always looking for new volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, the first step is to fill out a volunteer application. Once your application has been submitted, you will receive an invitation to our next upcoming orientation. Once you’ve completed an orientation session and decide what volunteer role you’d like to take on, you’ll be matched up with a mentor who
will train you and help make your volunteer experience as rewarding as possible. Once you’ve trained with a mentor, you can be scheduled for a regular shift.

VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED!
Volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week. The hours can start as early as 8am and end as late as 7pm, with the exception of special events, which may run later. Volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to:
Volunteer Cat Caregiver
Join our incredible team of shelter volunteers to help keep the shelter clean, the kitties fed, and the litter boxes scooped & clean! We have two shifts each day, and we couldn’t run the shelter without the volunteers who staff these shifts! Volunteers assist with many tasks which help to make the property more comfortable for both animals and people.
Healthcare Volunteer
Not afraid of needles? Great at pilling cats or want to learn how to be? Then
we can put you to work helping with our daily medical rounds at the shelter.
Administrative Volunteer
Help out at the shelter with paperwork, filing, mailings, answering the phone,
taking messages off the machine, etc. Whatever you can do will be a big help
to our staff! Prefer not to be on the phone? We’d love to have you help
with data entry, thank you notes, and our many mailings that go out each year. Some work can even be done at home.
Special Events/Fundraising Volunteer
We holds a variety of fundraisers and special events over the course of the year. From our Strut for Strays walk to our Photos with Santa to our FurBall auction, we need volunteers to make each event a success. If you are unable to make a weekly commitment to the shelter, this is a great way to lend a helping hand!
Feral Feeder Volunteer
Help our feral kitties out by taking a shift as a feral feeder once or twice
a week. We’ll show you where, and provide you with food and instructions
on how to help the kitties at one of our MRFRS feeding stations in Newburyport, Newbury, Salisbury, or Amesbury.
Sunday Spay/Neuter Clinic Volunteer
Help out at our monthly clinics for feral cats, where we spay/neuter and vaccinate anywhere from 30 to 100 cats in a day! Jobs range from trap wash (no experience or medical knowledge needed!) to surgery prep (experience or vet techs needed!) to surgery (vets only!). Whatever you’re interested in, as much or as little
medical knowledge as you have, we can find a spot for you!
Adoption Volunteer
Help match our kitties with just the right person by training to be an adoption counselor! You’ll get to know all our kitties and be trained in how our adoption process works, from initial visit to forever home!
Foster Care Volunteer
The ultimate hands-on experience! Take one of our kitties home for a much-needed break from the shelter, or perhaps to recover from surgery or an illness, or maybe take home a litter of kittens needing some time to grow big enough for spay/neuter! MRFRS will provide training, supplies, advice, and medical care as needed.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
The possibilities are endless! If you can help with photography, graphic design, maintenance, public relations, transporting cats to vet appointments, landscaping, trapping feral cats… we can find a way for you to use your skills to help the MRFRS!
