2017 Fur Ball FAQs

Q.

Where is the Andover Country Club?

A.

The Andover Country Club is just a 20 minute drive from the Newburyport/Salisbury area and offers plenty of free parking. You can get directions by going to their website.  Check them out on Facebook as well.

Q.

Is there free parking available?

A.

There is ample free parking in front of the Andover Country Club.  Handicap spaces are nearest the door.

Q.

Is the event handicapped accessible?

A.

The event is being held on the ground floor of the Andover Country Club.  There are 2-3 stairs to enter the Andover Country Club and there is a wheel chair ramp.

Q.

Are you offering transportation from the Newburyport/Salisbury area?

A.

If you are in need of transportation in order to be able to attend the 2017 Fur Ball, please  contact Gail Lynch  at 978-887-2122.  MRFRS has made arrangements for a van which will depart from the Green Street Municipal Parking Lot in Newburyport at 5:15 p.m. and will leave from the Andover Country Club at approximately 10:15 p.m. to return to Newburyport.  There is no cost to you for this transportation.

Q.

Are there accommodations available at the Andover Country Club if I wish to stay overnight?

A.

Yes.  Andover Country Club has made available a block of rooms at a discounted price.  If you wish to make a reservation you can call 978-475-1263 and speak with the front desk manager.  The price of the room per night is:  $160 for either a king size bed overlooking the golf course or two double beds overlooking the driving range; $170 for Queen size four poster bed or $170 for a King size bed with jacuzzi tub.

Q.

After I purchase the tickets, if I am unable to attend, can I receive a refund?

A.

No.  Once the tickets are purchased there are no refunds.  The purchase price will be considered a donation.

Q.

Is any portion of the ticket price tax deductible?

A.

No.  The ticket price was established to cover the cost of the food.  There is no additional amount added into the ticket price as a donation.  The ticket price allows MRFRS to break even with the cost.

Q

What are my dinner choices?

A

You may choose from (a) Grilled chicken piccata – boneless chicken breast with lemon caper cause or (b) baked filet of salmon, bourbon glazed with pineapple kiwi salsa or (c) vegan meal of filo stuffed with hummus, broccoli, summer squash, and cilantro with red pepper sauce.

Q.

Do I have to decide on my meal choice now?

A.

Yes.  Since we are giving guests a choice of meal, the Andover Country Club needs to know how many of each dish to prepare.  If you purchase your ticket online, your ticket will print with the name of your meal selection.  If you purchase your ticket by sending in a check and the R.S.V.P., you will be sent a ticket with your meal selection on it.  The wait staff will use the ticket to make sure you receive the meal requested.

Q.

Will I be able to change my order the night of the Fur Ball?

A.

In all probability you will not be able to change your meal selection.  The Andover Country Club will have 2-3 extras of each meal.  If at the time of serving there is an extra meal available you may be able to change.

Q.

Will alcohol be served?

A.

Yes there will be a cash bar throughout the evening.

Q.

Will I be able to purchase Fur Ball event tickets at the door?

A.

Q.

What is the check-in/registration process?

A.

There will be several check-in tables in the lobby of the Andover Country Club where you will show your ticket and be checked into the Fur Ball. At that time you will be asked if you want to take advantage of Express Pay which will expedite your check out and make it easier for you to purchase raffle tickets and Beanie Babies without any further actions by you.

Q.

What is Express Pay?

A.

Express Pay is a simple operation that allows you to swipe your credit card at check-in so that upon check-out all you have to do is receive your itemized receipt and pick up your items. Your card information is saved in an encrypted tokenized record until you purchase something. It will also allow you to purchase raffle tickets and Beanie Babies without having to pay cash or use your credit card!  You will also receive an email receipt.

Q.

What if I don’t elect Express Pay at check-in but later change my mind?  Can I elect Express Pay during the evening?

A.

You can elect Express Pay at any time up to the close of the silent auction and start of dinner. However any purchases you made prior to electing Express Pay (such as for raffle tickets or Beanie Babies) cannot be reversed and will not be included in your Express Pay receipt.

Q.

Can Express Pay be used to purchase drinks from the bar?

A.

No, Express Pay can only be used to pay for items sold by/associated with MRFRS.

Q.

What will I receive when I check in?

A.

You will receive an event program, a table card identifying your meal selection and a paddle with your bid number on it.

Q.

How will the cashiers at the Beanie Baby and raffle tickets know that I elected Express Pay?

A.

You will have a colored sticker affixed to your paddle which will identify you as having elected Express check in.

Q.

What types of payment can I use at the Fur Ball?

A.

We accept cash, check and credit cards. Please note that there are two ATMs on site at the Andover Country Club.

Q.

What types of credit cards do you accept at the Fur Ball?

A.

Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express can all be accepted for the purchase of auction items, Beanie Baby kitties and raffle tickets

Q.

When does the online Fur Ball auction begin and end?

A.

The auction will open on the Bidding for Good website on Friday, October 6th and close at midnight on Sunday, October 22nd.

Q.

How do I access the Bidding for Good website?

A.

You can enter http://www.biddingforgood.com/mrfrs on your web browser or you can go the mrfrs.org website and access the Fur Ball auction through a link on the MRFRS home page.

Q.

Will I be able to bid on all auction items prior to the Fur Ball?

A.

The auction has three types of auction items: (1) online auction only items (2) silent auction items and (3) live auction items. National store gift cards will only be part of our online auction.  They will not be available at the Fur Ball.  The silent auction items can be bid on prior to the auction, and will continue at the Fur Ball.  The live auction items can only be bid on at the Fur Ball.

Q.

What if I want to bid on a silent auction item but cannot attend the Fur Ball in person?

A.

Bidding for Good allows you to bid on silent auction items even if you are not going to attend the Fur Ball.  You have the option of indicating a top bid for each item.  At the close of the online auction on October 22nd, the top bid will be carried over to the Fur Ball.  We will receive a report of anyone who has indicated a higher bid.  During the course of the Fur Ball, a person will be assigned to watch the items being bid on and to record your bid, if necessary.

For example:  You enter into Bidding for Good a top bid of $120 for a cat statue.  During the online bidding, the top bid is $80.  On the 22nd, when the online component is closed, a bid sheet will be generated showing the top bid of $80.  At the Fur Ball if a person writes a bid of $90 on the bid sheet, a MRFRS representative will write in your bid at $100 ($10 increments).  If no one bids after that entry, you will be awarded the auction item.  If another person bids $110, the MRFRS representative will bid your maximum bid of $120.  If someone bids higher than $120, no further bid will be made on your behalf.  Therefore it is important that you indicate on Bidding for Good the highest amount you would be willing to pay for the auction item.  The MRFRS representative will bid only as needed up to your highest bid.

Q.

What are the Fur Ball raffles this year?

A.

There will be two raffles this year (1) the Captain Courageous Raffle and (2) the Dare to Care Raffle.

Q.

What is the Captain Courageous Raffle?

A.

The Captain Courageous Raffle raises money for MRFRS’ Captain Courageous Fund, which offers assistance to caretakers of seriously injured feral and stray cats, and to Good Samaritans who assist injured cats out of their own pockets. The fund is named for “The Captain,” a waterfront feral cat from MRFRS’s early days and is funded exclusively through their raffle efforts during the year and from donations identified specifically for the Captain Courageous Fund. Tickets are $5 each; and 5 for $20.  350 tickets will be sold and the raffle prize is a lovely plant with $100 of Massachusetts State Lottery scratch tickets.

Q.

What is the Dare to Care Raffle?

A.

The Dare to Care Raffle is an exciting new effort this year! Tickets are $10 apiece and only 350 tickets will be sold.  The winner will be able to choose from one of four wonderful prizes:  (a)  Two tickets to the Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins game on November 26th (b) a mini vacation at the Boston Yacht Haven Inn for one night and a $100 gift card to Mamma Maria’s in the North End (c) gift cards to seven Newburyport restaurants for a week of dining out and (d) a pampering package including a $200 gift card to Interlocks Spa and four bottles of premium wine.

Q.

Will there be Beanie Baby Kitties available this year?

A.

YES! There will be 50 Beanie Kitties available for purchase at $40 each. Each kitty will be dressed in a very special mini-t-shirt with the MRFRS 25th anniversary logo and “Dare to Care” logo imprinted on it.  Last year the Beanie Kitties sold out very quickly so if you want to purchase one, you’ll want to do so early in the evening.
