FARS PROGRAM APPLICATION

FARS Application for Veterinary Funding

The mission of the FARS Program is to enable cat owners currently facing financial hardships to keep pets who would otherwise be surrendered to a shelter or euthanized due to the owner’s inability to afford general vet care, food/litter, or treatment for illness/injury. FARS is administered by the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (www.mrfrs.org). We are able to provide this assistance through the generous support of private donors, and grants from groups like the Banfield Foundation, Fuller Foundation, and Carlee Charitable Trust.

Please read the guidelines and check the box to indicate that you have read, understand, and agree to abide by the FARS Program Guidelines.

    FARS PROGRAM GUIDELINES

    1. Applications will be qualified based on financial need.

    2. Proof of your income or proof that you are receiving public assistance will be required if your application is initially approved. This can be submitted by fax, mail, or to fars@mrfrs.org.

    3. Each applicant may receive assistance once per calendar year (though assistance may entail multiple visits to get the cat through issue).

    4. We may not be able to cover the entire cost of any given situation. Each case is reviewed individually, and we reserve the right to offer to cover only a portion of the care needed.

    5. All payments will only be made directly to the veterinarian handling the case. No reimbursements for previous expenditures will be made.

    6. Multiple cats from the same household needing assistance will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

    7. We will do our best to work with an applicant’s current veterinarian (if there is one), but we may require that applicants travel to the vet we specify, or to our shelter (Salisbury, MA) as needed, and we may require that applicants to travel to other low-cost resources for portions of care (e.g, Catmobile, rabies vaccine clinics, etc.). More assistance may be available to those able to come to our shelter for medications and blood draws.

    8. Applicants are expected to apply for Care Credit and contribute and/or fundraise as much as they are able to towards care (a minimum of 20% of cost is requested). In some cases, applicants may need look for additional assistance from other organizations (and will be expected to do so if cost of care exceeds FARS limit). We are glad to offer suggestions on fundraising and other groups.
